Presidency reinforces exchange of information ahead of the June 2024 European elections

The Belgian Presidency has decided to activate the Council’s IPCR (Integrated Political Crisis Response) arrangements in information sharing mode on foreign interference in the European elections.

At its meeting on 17-18 April, in the context of the upcoming European elections, the European Council underlined the Union and its Member States’ determination to closely monitor and contain any risks stemming from disinformation, including through artificial intelligence, as well as foreign information manipulation and interference in electoral processes. It invited the EU institutions and national authorities to cooperate on such matters.

The activation of the IPCR arrangements will support this cooperation by facilitating exchange of information among Member States and EU institutions. It will serve as a platform bringing together all relevant information and all ongoing actions, with a view to supporting preparedness and a fast, coordinated response at EU level.
